eThekwini ANC councillor granted bail in murder case

An eThekwini ANC councillor and another party member accused of murder and attempted murder have been granted bail by the Ntuzuma Magistrate's Court.

Ward 54 councillor Themba Mnguni and his co-accused Nomthandazo Mbeje are alleged to have been involved in a drive-by shooting in Inanda last September that claimed the lives of three women.

The victims, Ncami Shange, Beatrice Nzama and Philisiwe Jili, had been attending a community meeting to finalise candidates for the local government elections.
Mnguni handed himself over to police last week Tuesday after a warrant for his arrest was issued.
Mbeje was arrested on the same day, bringing the total number of suspects in the case to six.

"The accused were bail of R5 000 each," says KZN National Prosecution Authority spokesperson Natasha Kara.
"Their bail conditions are that they must not interfere with witnesses, report bi-weekly to a police station, hand in their passports and relocate out of the area. The matter was moved to 22 February 2022."
