PHOTOS: Emergency services searching for Umlazi child swept away by river

A frantic search is currently underway for a young child who disappeared beneath the waters of a river in Umlazi, south of Durban.

The 9-year-old was apparently swept away this morning.

Rescue Care's Garrith Jamieson says emergency workers from around the city are working together to try and find the little one."Paramedics, the Durban Fire Department and SAPS and Metro Search and Rescue Unit are currently on scene in Umlazi, between H and J sections," he said.
Meanwhile, police divers have been flown in to assist with the search.

Initial indications are that the girl had been playing with three friends when she was washed into the river.
