Eleven due in court following Nkandla gun battle

Eleven people are due to appear in the Nkandla Magistrate's Court today following a gun battle with police in the northern KwaZulu-Natal town last week.

Two suspects were killed in the shootout on Friday.
Police had intercepted the group travelling in three cars after receiving intelligence that they were planning on carrying out a robbery in the area.
SAPS spokesperson, Jay Naicker says officers recovered firearms and explosives.
Naicker says the suspects range in age from 29 to 49-years.
"They are going to be profiled because we suspect they may have been involved in other crimes in the area."
Another five were hurt when their vehicle overturned while trying to evade arrest.

"The suspects have been detained on charges of attempted murder, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition as well as for being in possession of explosives," said Naicker.
