The party's been reacting to the municipality's announcement that work to repair road P457 will begin soon.

A contractor tasked with reconstructing the R21 million bridge that links Ntuzuma to Inanda and the Bridge City Mall was introduced to the community on Friday.

The project could take up to six months to complete.

Noxolo Khumalo, a 26-year-old teacher from Johannesburg, drove to Durban to visit her relatives for Easter.

She unknowingly drove onto a road that was damaged in last year's floods, her car then plunged into a hole left by a collapsed bridge.

The EFF's eThekwini regional head Themba Mvubu helped the community and Khumalo's family recover her vehicle.

"It should not have happened this way that someone had to lose their life and then we go there and make noise. We must be able to be proactive.

"That thing happened a year ago and there was nothing that was done. But nevertheless, we are happy that we were able to put necessary pressure for the DOT to then come back and say we are sorting it out."
