Durban warehouse to be inspected after devastating fire

eThekwini firefighters say a full inspection will be carried out on a Sydenham warehouse, that was gutted by a fire on Monday.

Huge plumes of dark smoke filled the sky, as terrified workers exited the burning building on Brickfield Road.
Teams of emergency responders worked for more than seven hours to douse the flames at the carpet factory.
A metro police officer suffered second-degree burns to his back while assisting fire crews.

Regional commander, Sibusiso Mkhulisi says there was relief when they brought the flames under the control.
They managed to prevent the blaze from spreading to neighbouring buildings.
"At this stage we cant quantify the damage, however, we can report that both buildings which have three floors - their second and third floors were fully engulfed. The contents of the second and third floor were severely damaged."
The cause of the blaze isn't yet unknown.
