Durban temples targeted in spate of robberies, precious items stolen

The South
African Hindu Maha Sabha is urging temples in and around Durban to tighten up
their security.
Six temples in eThekwini were robbed in the past two weeks.
President Ashwin Trikamjee says criminals have been targeting specific items like brass murties.

He says this is concerning because it means there's a market for these sentimental and religious items.
"You know the murties are very precious because they have been in these temples for not one, two, five years - some murites have been there for over 100 years.
"More importantly, it's the only one of a kind in the world. It's priceless. The emotional attachment by the devotes from all these temples is immeasurable.

The group's offering a R10 000 reward for any information on the recent robberies, that leads to an arrest.
