Durban hotel fire 'completely contained within shop'
Updated | By Bernadette Wolhuter
The owners of the old Lonsdale Hotel say the student accommodation on the upper levels of the multi-storey edifice was not affected by a blaze there earlier today.

The building situated in the city centre was evacuated after a fire broke out at a shop on the ground level this morning.
The Dass Group's Shamim Ramjeewon says safety precautions were followed during the incident.
Ramjeewon says while investigations are still underway, the cause of the fire is believed to have been electrical in nature
"Since then the fire department has checked with all residents in the building. We are also back in our offices. So it's just that one shop. They are still investigating it but it appears to be electrical. It was just that one shop that was affected," she said.Show's Stories
