Durban 'explosives': Chamber says city's retail sector at risk
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
With the recent spate of bomb threats at mainly areas of business in Durban, the Durban Chamber of Commerce says it intends reaching out to stakeholders to gauge levels of fear and concern.
There's been at least six incidents of either bomb threats or the discovery of improvised devices.
Police have since handed investigations over to the Hawks who are, among other things, trying to establish the nature of the incidents and whether they are related.
The Chamber's Palesa Phili says they would like to see an immediate end to the bomb scares because they hurt business.
"There's possible business risk to eThekwini's retail and tourism sectors with all this activity. From our side, it will definitely have business impact.

Phili says they're encouraging businesses, and employees to exercise caution.
KZN Tourism officials have also confirmed they are in communication with UK officials in order to to allay safety concerns.
This after the UK government issued an advisory warning its citizens who are in the city about the improvised devices.
