Doctor stabbed to death at Umhlanga hotel laid to rest

The local doctor who was stabbed to death at the Capital Pearls Hotel in Umhlanga, will be laid to rest on Monday.

The woman accused of his murder is expected to appear in court today.

Melvin Naidu, 51, was declared dead outside his hotel room on the 13th floor on Thursday night.

It is understood that Naidu was killed during an altercation with a female guest he had earlier booked into a room with.

Police say a guest in the next room heard the commotion just before 10pm, and alerted hotel security.

The accused is said to have emerged from the room screaming for help. Naidu, who was stabbed in the neck was also heard calling for help.

The 31-year-old woman was arrested, while a case of murder has been opened. 

She will appear in the Durban Magistrates Court today.

Naidu's funeral will be held at the Clare Estate Crematorium at 11am.
