The family of 16-year-old Andile 'Bobo' Mbuthu have confirmed that the remains recovered from the Tongaat River are that of the murdered teen.
The Hambanathi resident was allegedly beaten, kidnapped and killed after he was accused of stealing alcohol from a local tavern on the 28th of April.
Police took six suspects in for questioning which led them to the river where remains were found at the beginning of May.
The suspects have since been arrested and have appeared in court.
Mbuthu's aunt, Zodwa Jali says the family is devastated.
"We are relieved because we were waiting for so long, but at the same time, we are very angry and devastated.
"We are relieved because now we know that it is him and now we can give him a decent funeral."
The family received the DNA results on Monday.
