DG in KZN premier's office granted R25k bail
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
Director-general in the KwaZulu-Natal premier's office Nonhlanhla Mkhize has been granted bail of R25 000.
Mkhize and her three corruption co-accused Siphiwe Mabaso, Sthembelo Mhlangu, Mthokozisi Duze, have had their bail hearing over the last few days in the Durban Specialised Commercial Crimes Court.
The decision on Mkhize's bail application was made on Friday morning.
"In court, the magistrate mentioned that due to the voluminous information that he received because everybody had made their application by an affidavit including the State, he was only able to make a ruling on applicant number one who is the DG Nonhlanhla Mkhize," says KZN NPA's Natasha Kara.

"He advised that his ruling on the remaining three applicants will take place next week Tuesday."
The four face charges of intimidation, defeating the ends of justice and fraud after the board chairperson of Mhlathuze Water was allegedly threatened over the report of a corruption probe at the utility.

Kara says Mkhize was given several bail conditions.
"In that, she should not go within 500 metres of the property of Mhlathuze Water and also that she should not engage with any of the board members or the staff of Mhlathuze Water even if it within the realms of her duty as the DG, she should refrain from that."
