Mkhize, who faces charges of defeating the ends of justice and intimidation, handed herself over to the Hawks on Monday.

"Mhlatuze Water, as a public entity, had to appoint a panel of legal service providers to render services on an adhoc basis over a three year period," says KZN NPA spokesperson Natasha Kara.

"These unlawful activities and fraud to the value of approximately R37 million was discovered during an internal audit."

Kara says two of the suspects got bail of between R60 000 and R5 000, respectively.
