Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The attorney of the man accused of threatening the chairperson of the Mhlathuze Water Board has been grilled in court about his client's alleged role in corruption.
The chairperson is said to have flagged irregular appointments of service providers to a panel at the water utility and launched a probe.
Siphiwe Mabaso is applying for bail, along with three other accused, including the director-general in the KZN premier's office, Nonhlanhla Mkhize.

It's alleged Mkhize told the chairperson to expect a visit at her home from ex-National Intelligence Agency agent.
The chairperson alleges she was threatened and instructed to bury the investigation.
The Durban Commercial Crimes Court on Thursday heard that Mabaso was in fact a debt collector and not an ex-NIA agent.
Mabaso's attorney told the court there was no proof that he threatened the board chairperson and took the report of the corruption investigation by force.

The court heard also heard that Mabaso had been in communication with accused number three, Sthembelo Mhlanga, who was suspended from the board for alleged corruption.
