DA gives Zikalala ultimatum over school sanitary towel project
Updated | By Nomfundo Ngcobo
The Democratic Alliance (DA) in KwaZulu-Natal has given Premier Sihle Zikalala until Friday to respond to its calls for provincial education HOD Dr Enoch Nzama to be suspended.

The party says it has new information implicating Nzama in the badly-handled school sanitary towel programme.
The programme was meant to help schoolgirls in the poor parts of KZN in 2016 and 2017.
Three months ago - a forensic probe revealed the project - which cost R129 million - was mismanaged by officials.

Some of the products were found gathering dust in district offices and school storerooms - and didn't reach the intended pupils.
Five officials were suspended following the release of the findings.
DA KZN Spokesperson on Education, Dr Imran Keeka says Nzama should have been among the suspended officials.

"Information has surfaced, in the form of the entire document, in which Dr Nzama has written to the HOD for Treasury asking for the money.
"If he [Zikalala] does not act then we believe that we have exhausted all means within the KZN Legislature and will have to find a way to have this matter further investigated through a Chapter 9 institution."
