DA calls for improved biosecurity to contain bird flu outbreak
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
The Democratic Alliance (DA) has called for improved biosecurity on poultry farms to help contain and prevent the spread of an avian flu outbreak.
The party feels the country needs to explore and develop its own mitigation strategies against the H5N1 virus.
This comes after highly virulent outbreaks of the avian flu virus were reported in Gauteng, the North West and the Western Cape.

No cases have been detected in KwaZulu-Natal.
The DA's Noko Masipa said: "As the continued outbreak of avian flu on poultry farms across the country shows no sign of a slowdown, the DA calls on Minister Thoko Didiza to prioritise biosecurity. This is to curtail the spread of avian flu to further poultry farms.
"The DA has long been calling for improved biosecurity to ensure minimal adverse diseases impact on farms post the outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease in Limpopo."
