Court hears Misuzulu succession was discussed with royal family

A legal representative of AmaZulu King Misuzulu kaZwelithini has denied claims that the royal family was not consulted on the succession plan.

The battle for the throne returned to the High Court in Pretoria on Monday.  

 

Misuzulu's half-brother Prince Simakade Zulu as accused President Cyril Ramaphosa of failing to fully consult the family.

He wants the president's recognition of Misuzulu as AmaZulu king in October last year to be declared unlawful. 

 

Misuzulu's lawyer Cedric Puckrin told the court that the late Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi in his capacity as Traditional Zulu Prime Minister invited members of the royal family to discuss the issue before the coronation. 

 

"Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi of KwaPhindange welcomed all the attendees according to their ranks, he was very pleased to see the presence of all members of the royal family which showed solidarity.

 

"The Prince of KwaPhindange introduce the nominated new King of the Zulu nation, past tense the nominated new King of the Zulu nation to all the Royal family members, Prince Misuzulu KaZwelethini Kabekuzulu.

 

"The Prince stated that the president and the Government are still going to make the coronation of the King to the throne.

 

"The Prince then asked Prince Thulani to please come forward and read the letter from Prince Simakade Zulu. Then he says he also raised the name of the nominated one as the King of the Zulu Prince Misuzulu Zulu."
