Prince Mbonisi was back in the High Court in Pretoria on Monday in his attempt to have the decision by Ramaphosa to recognise the king declared unlawful.

Ramaphosa recognised King Misuzulu ka Zwelithini as the reigning monarch of the Zulu nation in October last year.

Mbonisi’s legal representative, Thabani Masuku, told the court it's the sole prerogative of the royal family to identify an heir to the throne.

"This agreement also exists on who is the legitimate core royal family, Prince Misuzulu has been recognised as king by the side that supports the nomination and is being greeted accordingly."

"Mercifully, my Lord, in this courtroom, there is no side that supports Prince Misuzulu. He is on his own."
