Court gives green light to Misuzulu coronation

The Pietermaritzburg High Court has dismissed an application by Queen Sibongile Zulu challenging the will of late King Goodwill Zwelithini.
She claims to be entitled to half his estate because they were married in a civil union.
Judge Mjabuliseni Madondo on Wednesday ruled her application is premature as the executor has yet to wind up the king's estate.
He dismissed it with costs.

Two of the queen's daughters, Princess Ntandoyenkosi and Princess Ntombizosuthu, had also challenged the validity of the will.
They believe the signature was forged and had asked the court to interdict its execution and as well as the coronation of Misuzulu.
Judge Madondo has granted the suspension of the execution of the will.
"This raises a sharp dispute of fact which will be resolved by trial or reference of the issue for the hearing of oral evidence.
"However, the applicant's princesses do not ask this court to make a determination on the authenticity and validity of the will, but to grant interdictory rife in respect thereof pending action to be instituted with regard to the authenticity and validity of the will and the process leading to the coronation of prince Misuzulu ."
But he says they have not made out their case on the stay of the coronation.

"The evidence established is that the identification, nomination and appointment of prince Misuzulu as the king of the Zulu nation is not solely dependant upon the validity of the late Isilo's will. On 14 May 2021, the Zulu royal family assembled and identified the prince Misuzulu as a successor to the Zulu throne according to Zulu customary law and customs."
On the kingship, Madondo says Misuzulu remains an undisputed successor to the Zulu throne.
He says there's no contender as Prince Simakade, who was believed could lay claim to the throne, has disavowed any claim to it.
The judge says according to customary law, Misuzulu is the rightful heir, adding no one has disputed the law by which his name was put forward.
