Hawks officials say Zandile Gumede's arrest is not in anyway, related to the elections.
They have been answering questions about the timing of the Durban Mayor's arrest.
"Elections don't feature anywhere. We are just dealing with the cases as they come," Malaudzi said.
Speaking to the media outside the Durban Commercial Crimes Court yesterday, Hangwani Malaudzi says the Hawks weren't dictated to about when Gumede should be taken into custody.

"We need to make sure that the person that we are working with - we arm them with information. Rushing a case - will compromise everything," Malaudzi said.
Gumede, city councillor, Mondli Mthembu and businessmen, Craig Poonan face charges of fraud and corruption linked to a Durban Solid Waste tender worth more than R200-million. Bail was granted at R50 000 each.
