A Durban man accused of stabbing his wife to death has made his first appearance in the Durban High Court.

Newly-wed Roxanne Thathoni was killed, apparently during an argument with her husband Denver Mariemuthoo in March last year.
Thathoni was found by their landlord after he'd rushed over to investigate the screams in their Tongaat home.

The court heard on Monday that Mariemuthoo's defence attorney had withdrawn from the case.
The person who'd been paying Mariemuthoo's legal fees is said to have died of Covid-19 related complications.
Mariemuthoo told the court he would now opt for legal aid.
The case has been postponed to June for a pre-trial conference.
