MEC urged to intervene in crisis at Nquthu Municipality

The African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal has asked the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC to intervene in what has branded as an administration crisis in Nquthu.

Private security personnel removed ANC councillors from a council sitting last week.

The party's pointed fingers at the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), but the party has dismissed the allegations, saying the councillors were removed because they'd continuously disrupted the sitting.

A court declared the appointment of three top officials at the municipality invalid two weeks ago.

The ANC's Nhlakanipho Ntombela said: "We are concerned about the incident that happened because of the differences of the parties who were engaging.

"The private security was inside the hall to disrupt the meeting and remove those who are said to have been causing chaos.

"We believe that is against the rules of governances and we are calling in the MEC of Cogta to intervene because there are a lot of problems coming up now and then at the Nquthu Municipality."
