Calm restored to Mariannridge school
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
Calm has returned to a Pinetown school, after a two day protest led by its pupils.

Learners have returned to class and portable toilets installed following the unrest at Marianridge Secondary.
Teaching came to a halt at the all girls school on Tuesday, when rooms - including the toilets - pupils had been complaining about, were set alight.
The fires were quickly doused by learners and teachers. KwaZulu-Natal Education's since installed portable loos.

SADTU's Bheki Shandu, who's visited the school, says the department needs to continue assisting the school.
"We want to call on the department to come closer to the school and assist it because it's an institution that has challenges which have been ongoing since the beginning of last year. As Sadtu, we shall be convening a meeting with educators as well as the community requesting them to assist the school instead of being part of those who are destabilising the institution," Shandu said.
