Wentworth school stabbing: KZN Education asks for calm
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education is calling for calm following the fatal stabbing of a schoolboy in Wentworth, south of Durban.
Community members have become enraged after a fight between two teens turned fatal on Wednesday.
It’s understood the 16-year-old boys had been fighting outside Umbilo Secondary School when one of them pulled out a knife and stabbed the other.
Education’s Muzi Mahlambi says while they understand the community’s frustrations, the law must be allowed to take its course.
"We are saddened by this. Just yesterday, the MEC delivered the budget speech. When he was speaking about school safety - it was an outside element coming into school to attack our learners and educators. Little did we know that we also had to come up with a mechanism of how to prevent learners attacking each other - which is out of our control."
