Lack of budget blamed for 'deteriorating' Waterloo infrastructure

A councillor based in the north of Durban says a lack of an operational budget is the source of the collapse of infrastructure in eThekwini.
Residents of Waterloo have been complaining about the municipality's pace in fixing stormwater drains in Ward 106.
Councillor Johnson Chetty says many houses in his area were flooded during last week's heavy downpours due to stormwater drainage systems that are either inadequate or not maintained.

"I have got cases where roads have not been maintained from the time they were built in Waterloo.
"Some of the gravel has deteriorated over they years, the stormwater is not being jacked-up and the people are suffering and is a case of common excuse from the council is 'We do not have budget''".
The City says a team will be dispatched to assess the affected area.
