BREAKING NEWS: Cyril Ramaphosa elected ANC president

Cyril Ramaphosa has been announced as the new president of the ANC.

EleXions Agency's Bontle Mpakanyane made the announcement a short while ago after being invited on stage by the party's Electoral Commission Chair, Sindiso Mfenyana.
Hundreds of ANC delegates gathered in Nasrec, south of Johannesburg, to cast their vote for the favoured candidate.
Ramaphosa went into the election with 1669 nominations,while Nkosazane Dlamini-Zuma received 1094 nominations.
David Mabuza will assume the role of deputy president.
In today's plenary session, delegates from national branches raised points of order, including the voting in of the 80 members of the NEC.
Ramaphosa secured 2440 votes to Dlamini-Zuma's 2261.
Zuma was elected for a second term at the helm of the ANC exactly five years ago today. His term as State president continues until the 2019 national elections.
The ANC top six positions are as follows:
- ANC President: Cyril Ramaphosa
- Deputy President: David Mabuza
- National Chairperson: Gwede Mantashe
- Secretary general: Ace Magashule
- Deputy secretary general: Jessie Duarte
- Treasurer general: Paul Mashatile
