#ANC54 UPDATE: Vote counting underway at NEC
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
Vote counting is underway at the ANC National Elective Conference.
The voting process wrapped up a short while ago.
Since midnight, delegates have been putting their mark next to their preferred candidates to lead the party, Cyril Ramaphosa and Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma want the president's job.
Outgoing secretary-general, Gwede Mantash has been addressing the media this morning.
"The new NEC must have the task of putting content to that. Power is about being able to allow others around you to exercise it on your behalf. Once, power is over-centralised - it becomes dangerous to the incumbent.

Mantashe says a better ANC is good for the country.
"Even investors talk about this conference with the hope that there will be this outcome, the rand strengthens. If it goes the other way, the rand weakens. It means that the ANC is recognised as a leader of society. We must not take that for granted - we must continue earning it," he says.
Meanwhile, the ANC's Khusela Sangoni says they're confident that a new president will be announced this afternoon.
"Our delegates have conducted themselves in an exemplary manner. It's going quite quickly because we had thought that every batch of 200 would take at least 3 hours. One can see from the time that we are proceeding smoothly," she says.
