Attack on Saudi refinery likely to hit South African motorists' pockets

We look set to feel the effects of this weekend's attack on a Saudi oil refinery.

The Automobile Association of South Africa says the country's fuel price outlook has changed somewhat in a matter of days because of the drone strikes.

The attacks knocked out more than half of Saudi Arabia's oil production.

AA spokesperson, Layton Beard says the diesel price was set to go up a few days ago, but the increase is now likely to widened to around 13 cents a litre.

Illuminating paraffin is set to go up by 8 cents.

While petrol prices have had a positive outlook, the gains are being wiped out.

"All grades of petrol had been showing a decrease last Friday, but they have since narrowed," said Beard.

He says 95 octane petrol could decrease by 5 cents a litre instead of a possible 11 cents.

93 octane petrol is likely to cost 20 cents less.

"The picture for petrol still remains positive, but those drone attacks have definitely had a negative impact," explained Beard.
