It's a proud moment for the East Coast as one of our very own music groups has gone viral.

The Joy are an a cappella group from South Africa. These Mzansi superstars provided lead vocals for American Grammy Award-winning rapper Doja Cat on two of her tracks. The tracks, Acknowledge Me and Shutcho, were reimagined to incorporate lyrics in Zulu. How rad!

The group has taken social media by storm with their unique composition and vibey performances. We caught up with this local group and got the exclusive scoop on what it was like to perform with Doja Cat:

Group members Pastor (Ntokozo Bright Magcaba), Duzie (Melokuhle Mkhungo), Guduza (Sphelele Hlophe), Sthombe (Phelelani Sithole), and Marcus (Sanele Ngcobo) have been together since they met at school.

“From South Africa to Coachella, The Joy, ladies and gentlemen, headlining with Doja Cat on the main stage. What a beautiful performance they had,” an X user wrote.

"This is a huge deal for South Africans," remarks another user - and we could not agree more!

Other than Doja Cat, acclaimed American singers such as Alicia Keys and Jennifer Hudson are also admirers of The Joy. Jennifer Hudson was particularly enamoured with the group, so much so that she welcomed them onto her talk show in 2022.
