Armed robber shot dead by security guards near Umhlali

An alleged armed robber has been killed in a shoot-out with security guards, moments after he held up an elderly woman with a shotgun at her Umhlali home on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast.
Police spokesperson, Thulani Zwane says the woman was woken in her home by a loud noise this morning.
"She was approached by the suspect who pointed his firearm at her. Cash as well as other items from the house were taken before the man fled the scene," he said.
Zwane says the private security guards then launched a search for the suspect.
"The suspect allegedly shot at the security guards, who returned fire. The suspect was fatally wounded. The shotgun was also recovered," he said.
Zwane says she then went outside to check what was happening.

The woman then informed a local security company that she had been robbed.
