"The incident was reported on Tuesday night where the boy was with his friend when someone opened fire, fatally wounding him. The second victim was wounded and taken to hospital for treatment," the police's Thulani Zwane said.
A case of murder as well as attempted murder has been opened for further investigation.
Zwane said no one has been arrested as yet.
"The Sydenham Police are still looking for the suspect. We are appealing to anyone who may have information about the whereabouts of the suspects, or who witnessed the incident, to come forward," he said.
