Another Ugu, eThekwini weather alert as residents pick up pieces

The South African Weather Service forecaster Odirile Mudipa says an alert remains in place for more disruptive rain in Ugu and eThekwini.

"We have a 60% chance of showers and thundershowers in southern KZN, but we are not expecting any specific rainfall or precipitation for the northeastern parts of KZN.

 

"Thursday, we are expecting isolated showers and thundershowers across the province, and we hope the weather to clear from Thursday evening into Friday and for the rest of the week."

Mudipa says climate specialists are trying to verify the weather patterns witnessed in Inanda. 

 

"We haven't been able to verify the tornado activities, but we were in contact with disaster, and they have mentioned that they observed a lot of damage to houses and property. We still need to go back and do our own verification."


Meanwhile, the wet weather's wreaking havoc on the roads Wednesday morning.

 

A minibus taxi and two bakkies collided on the M19 Durban bound, near Reservoir Hills. 

 

Many people have been hurt, with traffic severely affected.  


Garrith Jamieson, who's with ALS Paramedics, says they have been responding to calls for assistance from Tuesday evening.

He says a number of roads are inaccessible, including Stapleton in Pinetown.


"Near the M13 bridge has been closed due to a massive amount of water. We have been informed of M7 being severely water-logged. Umgeni Road under the N2 bridge there is pools of water there as well. 


"On the southern freeway M4 south before Edwin Swales and after Victoria Embankment, there are pools of water as well as in Chatsworth, we have multiple reports of pools of water on the Higginson Highway and inside the Unit 5 area, especially near the R.K Khan circle."
