ANC PEC to remain on hold

The Pietermaritzburg High Court has extended an interdict preventing the KwaZulu-Natal ANC's elective conference from going ahead.
The interdict was argued and eventually secured on the same day that the provincial conference was scheduled to get underway last month.

A group from the Moses Mabhida Region argued that their branch general meetings had been marred by irregularities.
In his founding affidavit, Reshma Brijraj - who was once a member of the Lower South Coast’s Regional Executive Committee and is now on the Regional Task Team - says in May, the National Working Committee took a decision that the regional and provincial conferences should proceed.
But - Brijraj explains - the NWC wanted issues of membership authenticity and gate keeping as well as threats of violence, addressed first.
“The above processes, have not been fully or satisfactorily attended to,” he says.
The court’s today heard that the order secured last month, has yet to be served on the respondents.
And a new order has been taken - this time, by consent - extending the interdict until further notice.
