ANC must reconsider Zandile Gumede deployment, says Veterans League

The African National Congress (ANC) Veterans League says the deployment of Zandile Gumede to the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature must be reconsidered.

The ANC in KZN recalled Gumede as eThekwini mayor last year because of the fraud and corruption charges she's currently facing.

But in a surprise move last week she was sworn in as an MPL to replace former KwaDukuza Mayor Ricardo Mthembu who died of COVID-19.

Veterans League president Dr. Snuki Zikalala says this dents the image and integrity of the ANC.

"The issue of moral high ground is what sustained the ANC. Now a comrade who has a dark cloud and she has not yet sorted it out in terms of appearing through the charges and showing her in innocence and is then elevated to a high position. "

"This matter needs to be re-looked at. We have got nothing against comrade Zandile Gumede," says Zikalala.
