Gumede and all other party members serving on Executive Committees at eThekwini and Msunduzi were recently redeployed by the ANC.

But Gumede withdrew her resignation last week, leaving the province's only Metro without any clear political leadership.

ANC secretary general, Ace Magashule says Gumede wants the party to hear her version of events.

"We have actually engaged Comrade Zandile, we met officials from the province of KwaZulu-Natal and I think the comrades have taken us into confidence as to how they are dealing with that issue," said Magashule.

"It's not just a matter of Comrade Zandile, I think officials in KwaZulu-Natal have assessed our performance in various municipalities throughout the province and have reached certain decisions."

Msunduzi was able to elect new leaders last week. The provincial capital remains under administration.

Meanwhile, Gumede is due back in court early next year on corruption-related charges.

She was arrested in connection with a multi-million Rand waste removal tender, dating back to 2016, that was deemed dodgy by the Hawks.

Gumede is currently out on R50,000 bail.

Her supporters believe proper processes were not followed when the party decided to axe her from the top office at Durban City Hall.
