Amahle Maliwa had an affair with Njabulo's father.
Her attorney, Patrick Mkhumbuzi read out Maliwa's  plea statement in which she says her relationship with Njabulo’s father, Thandaza Mankayi, was good and whenever they had disagreements, they would talk it out.

But she says on one occasion, Mankayi decided to leave the relationship following an argument. Maliwa says she tried desperately to get him back but her efforts proved fruitless.

She says at the time she felt emotional, depressed and belittled. She then plotted with her friend and co-accused, Liziwe Ngwayishe to kill Mankayi’s son.
