Afriforum urges government to change approach towards land reform
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Civil rights group, Afriforum believes the way government is handling land reform is not solving the problem but making it worse.
The organisation has been commenting after EFF leader, Julius Malema appeared in the Newcastle Magistrate's Court yesterday for charges of contravening the 1956 Riotous Assemblies Act, and for calling on supporters to take unoccupied land.
The matter was postponed to December 7 to allow Malema time to approach the High Court on the legitimacy of the law.

Afriforum's Ernst Roets says political leaders in South Africa don't seem to grasp that there's a difference between the terms, redistribution and restitution.
"The two are used as if it's the same thing. Afriforum is in support of the principle of restitution which essentially means that if land was taken, from somebody illegitimately - if it wasn't bought - that land should be given back. Redistribution is simply saying if you are white then you should not own land because you are white," he said.
