The case has been postponed, but the South African Human Rights Commission says it is also taking the matter to the Equality Court -- where Catzavelos could be hit with a fine.

The 40-year-old businessman made racist remarks in a video that he recorded while on holiday in Greece.

The SAHRC in Gauteng's Buang Jones says the date for an appearance at the Equality Court will soon be announced.

"We will await for a date from the clerk of the Equality Court. We will transmit our papers to the lawyers for Mr. Catzavelos who will in turn respond. A date will be set for a pre-trial conference. We hope this will happen within the next month," he said.

Jones says they hope the courts will send a clear message that racial slurs have no place in society.

"It doesn't have to be directed towards a specific person. It can be towards a specific group. Given our history, the K-work is used to address black people - it's demeaning and denigrating. Courts in South Africa - including the Constitutional Court - have pronounced on this matter."
