Adam Catzavelos case: Magistrate recuses himself over concerns of bias

The magistrate who was meant to preside over the discrimination and hate speech case between the South African Human Rights Commission and Adam Catzavelos has recused himself over concerns of bias.

The Commission brought an application in the Randburg Magistrates Court, arguing that Magistrate Naren Sewneran and Catzavelos’ lawyer, Lawley Shein had previously worked together.

The case will now be heard later this month.

Catzavelos grabbed headlines for all the wrong reasons a year ago.
