Activist Yousuf Deedat dies in hospital after being shot

The family of Yousuf Deedat says the community activist has died.
Deedat was shot outside the court in Verulam on Wednesday while walking with his wife.
She was not physically hurt.

Seedat's family says he succumbed to his injuries in a Pietermaritzburg hospital this afternoon.
Family spokesperson, Salim Abdool Karim says the attack on Deedat came as a shock.
"The deeply shocked by what happened and are trying to deal with his passing as best they can. It is a difficult time for them, and they are in prayer, and our thoughts are with them."

"The whole incident was a complete surprise, nobody was expecting this, and we don't know what the motive is and we don't know who it was. The whole thing was just totally unexpected," he said.
Karim says Deedat will be buried tomorrow morning in Verulam.
