Accused in Verulam mosque attack gets bail

One of 19 men arrested earlier this month on charges relating to the Verulam mosque attack and the planting of incendiary devices around Durban - has been granted bail.

The group appeared in the Verulam Magistrate’s Court this afternoon when an order that proceedings be held in camera was lifted.
A 38-year-old father of four, Gollam Haffajee, has been granted bail.
His application went unopposed by the State. State Advocate, Adele Barnard told the court that Haffajee hadn't been pointed out by any of the witnesses, that there were various investigations still outstanding and that he wasn't thought to be a flight risk.

Magistrate Irfan Khalil set bail at R100 000 and Haffajee is not allowed to contact any of the state witnesses and has to surrender his passport to surrender his passport until the matter has been finalised.
