4 taxi drivers nabbed following Durban protests

At least four taxi operators have been taken into custody following a protest in the Durban CBD and surrounds on Thursday morning.

eThekwini Metro Police spokesperson, Parbhoo Sewpersad says they first got reports of trucks blocking Warwick Avenue.
He says officers managed to move the heavy duty vehicles off the roadway but were then were called to Chris Hani Road.

"Upon arrival, they found taxi drivers with pangas and knopkieries and they managed to clear out that disruption. There was another disruption on Umgeni Road, they managed to clear out that.
"It is believed the taxi operators are saying the metro police are enforcing them for route permits and they do not want to be enforced for route permits."

He says the two disruptions could be linked.
"It is alleged that some taxi operators had removed the brake airline to the trucks"
