2017 Year in Review: KZN faces 30-hour water shutdown

Earlier this year water authorities had to implement a 30-hour water shutdown to conduct essential maintenance work at the Midmar Water Works.

Parts of eThekwini, Msunduzi and uMgungundlovu municipalities were affected.

The shutdown came into affect at around 8.30am on Tuesday, 21 February and was scheduled to continue until the following afternoon.

Umgeni Water officials assured residents, businesses and affected communities that it had made provisions to ensure there was enough water in the reservoirs to make it through the 30-hour shutdown.

The story showed us just how important water is in our everyday lives.

The initial post garnered 17,900 page views and some 109 comments, most people tagging their friends to warn them of the cuts.

Others asked about the nature of the shutdown, while urging authorities to be more specific when naming the affected areas.
