Severe storms resulted in flash-floods, strong winds and high seas in 2017.

The first snowfall in KwaZulu-Natal was recorded in May.

Parts of the Drakensberg - including Sani Pass, Giants Castle and Cathedral Peak - were turned into a winter wonderland.

Breathtaking photos and videos of snow-covered mountains were shared on social media.

The Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs also placed disaster teams on high alert to respond to any emergencies as a result of the weather.

Officials warned residents not to chase the snow, as doing so could put their own lives at risk.
