2017 Year in Review: Durban shocked by Clairwood kidnapping and double murder

The Clairwood community, south of Durban launched an intense search for two schoolboys who went missing after leaving school last month.

10-year-olds Luyanda Msomi and Njabulo Mankayi were last seen boarding a bus on the 9th of November, 2017.

They were best friends and said to be inseparable.

Tragically, their bodies were discovered a few days apart south of the city.

Luyanda's body was found in dense bush in the Montclair area, while Njabulo's body was recovered from a canal near the harbour.

Three people were arrested in connection with the murders.

Amahle Maliwa, Liziwe Ngwayishe and Ali Yusuf abandoned their bid for bail in the Durban Magistrate's Court.

The murders angered local communities, who protested outside the courthouse.

One of the women arrested in connection with the crime is believed to be the ex-girlfriend of Njabulo's father, Thandaza Mankayi.

The accused are due back in court on the 26th of January, 2018.
