13 hurt in Shongweni taxi crash

Some 13 people have been hurt in a crash involving a taxi and a truck near Shongweni, west of Durban.

The vehicles collided on the N3 eastbound carriageway, that is heading from Pietermaritzburg towards Durban, just before the Mariannhill Toll Plaza.
"Once stabilised on scene, the injured were taken to various Durban hospitals for further care."
Initial reports from the scene are that the taxi was rear-ended by the truck.

Rescue Care says paramedics who attended to the scene found multiple people lying on the floor just before midday."More ambulances were dispatched to assist," said spokesperson Garrith Jamieson.

Jamieson says injuries ranged from minor to serious."Once stabilised on scene, the injured were taken to various Durban hospitals for further care."
The fast lane had to be closed while emergency services worked to clear the scene.

The exact cause of the crash is still unknown at this stage.Police were on scene and will be investigating.
