Trevor Noah is weighing in on the death of Queen Elizabeth II. There has been mixed reaction to the 96-year-old monarch's passing.

Some have praised her dedication to serving her people and for being a key reason why the British public continuously supported the royal family.

But others have noted the monarchy's dark history. When Queen Elizabeth II ascended to the throne at the age of 25, the British Empire was still controlling dozens of territories around the world.

During a recent segment of 'Behind The Scenes' on 'The Daily Show', Trevor explained to the audience that the Queen has a complicated legacy.

"I have some members of my family in South Africa who were sad... It's interesting because I think for some people the Queen symbolised something and someone. It could be anything.

"She could have symbolised a world that was moving in a certain direction, for some people she symbolised a woman being in power which was inspiring, and obviously for other people she evokes thoughts of colonisation. She makes people think of the worst of the British Empire," the 38-year-old said

Trevor also reflected on the death of his grandmother. Gogo Frances Noah died earlier this year at the age of 95.

The South African comedian "cried all week" after her passing. He told his 'Daily Show' audience that his mother Patricia was shocked that Gogo Frances died.

"My mom says to me, without even batting an eyelid, 'I was so shocked because I thought that as long as the Queen is alive, your gran will be alive... because they were born the same year and they're the same age... I thought they would both go at the same time," he recalled his mother saying.
