Britney Spears on album claims: 'I will never return to the music industry'

Britney Spears has dismissed claims that she planning to release a new album in 2024.

The 42-year-old singer was reacting to media reports that she approached fellow singer Charli XCX about a possible collaboration.

One report claimed that Britney wanted Charli XCX to write music for her. She has co-written songs for stars such as Selena Gomez, Camila Cabello, and Troye Sivan.

"The Britney album is being kept top secret. Work has been going on behind the scenes for quite a while to gather a series of killer songs to bring Britney back with a bang," a source told The Sun UK.

The source went as far as claiming that Charli XCX, whose real name is Charlotte Emma Aitchison, had already come up with a "really strong track" for Britney's secret album project.

Britney has clapped back at the claims. Not only is she not working on a new album, but the 'Piece of Me' hitmaker told her fans that she has no plans to return to the studio anytime soon.

"Just so we’re clear most of the news is trash!!! They keep saying I’m turning to random people to do a new album … I will never return to the music industry," she wrote.

Britney might not be recording a new album but she is writing music - for other people.

"I've written over 20 songs for other people [in] the past two years. When I write, I write for fun or I write for other people.... I’m a ghostwriter and I honestly enjoy it that way."

Britney deactivated her Instagram on Thursday. She has deleted her account several times in the past 12 months.
