English singers Charli XCX and Sam Smith have a brand new song out called, 'In the City'. The dance track was released on Thursday, October 19.

Charli XCX co-produced the song with ILYA, A. G. Cook, Omer Fedi, and George Daniel.

"The song is about finding the people you truly love and connect with through wild nights out and partying in magical places. It’s about feeling accepted, the magnificence of being welcomed into queer spaces and those once-in-a-lifetime people you get to meet when you’re there," the 35-year-old said in a statement.

Charli shared a preview of the song on her Instagram page earlier this month. 'Made something cute," she wrote.

Fans loved the preview, with one calling it the "song of the year, song of the decade, song of the century".

However, when word got out that Charli was collaborating with Sam on the track, they begged her to remove him.

"Can the girls get a version without Sam Smith pleaseeeee," one person wrote. Another fan commented: "We love you but please release a version without Sam."

Sam, who uses the pronouns they/them, has been receiving major backlash for their devil-themed outfit choices and performances.

Some people have accused the 'Unholy' singer of crossing over to the dark side.

Charli XCX has come to Sam's defence. She says it is "disheartening" to see how people are treating Sam.

"I'm about to release a song with Sam Smith, and the experience so far has been really interesting, because never in my life, have I seen somebody receive so many hateful comments online," she said on TikTok.

The '1999' singer added: "It's honestly been really disheartening, but at the same time, I'm so proud of Sam's ability to withstand that because I know that I certainly couldn't withstand it. So, I just want to say, Sam, I love you, I love our song together, and I am in awe of your strength."
