Who knew that you could turn red wine into a delicious cocktail?

The Sangria is a cocktail which was originally created in Spain and Portugal. An interesting fact is that only these two locations are eligible to label the drink as 'Sangria'.

The term Sangria means 'bloodletting', which makes sense due to the fact that red wine has a blood red colour.

The drink is said to have been created around the 1800s and later introduced to the United States of America, where it gained popularity at the 1964 World Fair.
