They even sell biltong and braai meat!
One of the many things South Africans pride themselves on is our authentic cuisine. This restaurant in Dallas, Texas - all the way in the United States of America, caters for just that.
It's a modern steakhouse with creative flair, Wits Steakhouse quietly opened in Dallas' trendy Design District at the start of 2022, nearly 15,000km away from Wits University.

Wits Steakhouse offers biltong, braai meat, and local beer.
Some of the décor also has a touch of Johannesburg. There is even a trunk full of "gold bars", pointing to Johannesburg's history.
The restaurant was founded by Gqeberha-born Richard Ellman. He is the founder of Apheleia Restaurant Group, which owns three other restaurants in Dallas.
"We moved to Dallas when I was seven and I've lived here the majority of my life," Ellman told Business Insider South Africa.

So why this name for the restaurant, because he didn't study at the university?
It was actually his mother who attended Wits, therefore inspiring the name.
He also shared that he still has a bit of family in South Africa and it's where his roots are. For him, Wits is a way to bring attention to South African food and culture, and hopefully it provides a small taste of the homeland for the many South Africans living in the USA.
Have a look at the menu and see what you can enjoy on your next trip to the USA.
A taste of home; away from home!
